We’ve all fallen down or gotten bumps and bruises, and sometimes our head takes the brunt of the force. When this happens, we can injure our brain, sometimes resulting in a mild traumatic brain injury (MBTI).

A mild traumatic brain injury/concussion is generally classified as a brain injury as a result of physical, blunt trauma. Since the brain is suspended in cerebral fluid as opposed to stationary in a fixed position, it is susceptible to moving and twisting when sudden acceleration or deceleration from direct force is applied to the skull. This type of injury can stretch, squeeze, and even tear nerve cells, disrupting the way the brain functions.

If you have suffered head trauma as a result of blunt force trauma, seek medical attention. Mild traumatic brain injuries can be a result of anything from car accidents, to sports/injuries, to falls. A mild traumatic brain injury will not only affect cognition, but all activities of daily living.
